Intro and trailer

Shadow of the Depth proved to be very competitive even as a demo during Steam Next Fest in February 2024 where it caught the eye of quite a few gamers. I personally loved it and rated the game in the highest bracket as I suspected it would only get better with future releases. According to the initial impressions from the Steam players, the prediction was correct.

Shadow of the Depth overview

As an Early Access title, Shadow of the Depth stands to gain more content in the future but the way it is currently, it offers a roguelike ARPG extravaganza in top-down style, not to be confused with isometric games.

Shadow of the Depth (S) is a top-down roguelite that has you crawling endless dungeons with an occasional boss thrown into the mix. The gameplay is addictive, art style charming and the game promises many hours of fun. ~ Our review among 56 other demos

The demo itself is still available if you want to check what the game has to offer, although you will have access to only one of the playable characters.

In the Early Access version, you can play:

  • Arthur – A bulky knight with a sword and shield
  • Phyllis – An agile archer
  • Stephanie – A glass cannon mage
  • Ginzo – Another swordsman, albeit with longer range, less bulk and more agility
  • Arya – A short-range melee attacker with high agility and damage with the tradeoff being squishiness

Pricing

Shadow of the Depth costs $15 / €14.79 but it is on a 10% discount until May 4, 2024.
