Intro
Hades 2 is a hotly anticipated sequel to the extremely well-received roguelike from 2020 and the devs still managed to catch everyone by surprise with an Early Access launch on May 6, 2024. The game is almost as well-received as the original, although there are a few valid points in the negative reviews as well.
Overwhelmingly Positive reception
With 96% positive reviews on Steam in the days after Early Access launch, Hades 2 is among the most esteemed games on the platform. The positive reception is deserved as the game brings a lot of what made the original great and adds its own interesting twists.
Hades 2 also continues the storytelling intrigue of the dysfunctional family which everyone wanted more of and the Supergiant Games provided.
However, not everything is sunshine and roses down in the underworld town so we checked out what the negative reviews shine light onto.
What the negative comments are about
Considering the quality of the original Hades, it was inevitable some players would just want more of the same and many of the negative reviews reflect this since Hades 2 makes strides in its own direction.
One example is the slower combat that feels sluggish to the players of the original game. On the other hand, there are people who had a distaste for the original’s elements, such as grinding, which returned in the sequel and resulted in negative reviews.
Overall, many of the negative reviews still concede it is a game that will be fun for many and frankly, there is only one true way to find out – by giving Hades 2 a shot yourself. As long as you don’t play it for more than 2 hours on Steam, you can refund, no questions asked, making it sort of a free demo.
