Intro

Splinter Cell remake is highly anticipated by the fans of the franchise who were ghosted by Ubisoft for so long and since the announcement of Ubisoft Forward 2024 details, everyone has been buzzing about the potential Sam Fisher appearance and associated news. A leaker with a fairly long streak of correct info recently pitched in and noted a few interesting but possibly controversial details about the game.

Splinter Cell, ray tracing and “ray traced audio”

According to VISCERAL’s info, the new Splinter Cell will allow enemies to detect Sam through raytraced reflections and audio.

“It will have some pretty cool features like enemies being able to detect you based on raytraced reflections, raytraced audio etc”

While most gamers are familiar with what ray tracing represents visually, you might be wondering what “raytraced audio” is. Essentially, devs are using more resources for a better surround sound and just like the player gets to enjoy it, the AI enemies will be able to utilize additional information while searching for them.

Will the enemies finally be able to spot Sam Fisher's NVGs?

What it means for Splinter Cell gameplay

Should the rumors prove to be true and AI enemies get the ability to use ray tracing reflections to spot Sam, it would absolutely polarize the audience. Not everyone has hardware that supports ray tracing and even among those who do, not everyone uses the feature since it usually tanks the frame rate. After all, personal preference will sometimes mandate that smooth gameplay comes before eye candy.

If the lack of ray tracing leaves players at a disadvantage, it will certainly be an issue. Even if you don’t want to look at it as a disadvantage, the gameplay itself and immersion will be compromised if you get spotted without a logical explanation.

However, none of this is set in stone. Even though VISCERAL’s leaks proved reliable in the past, none of this is official until Ubisoft itself confirms the info.
