Intro

Assassin’s Creed: Shadows went to the part of the world every fan wanted it to and Ubisoft managed to mess it all up.

What was supposed to be an ace in the hole turned into a major problem for the company and the latest delay confirms that theory as the game will attempt to avoid releasing in the same time window as titles gamers are actually excited for.

Ubisoft’s delay reasoning and new release date

According to the official announcement, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows is now scheduled to release on March 20, 2025.

In the tweet, they claimed the additional time was necessary for polishing the game. What could have been said in a single sentence, the word salad was extended to 4 paragraphs and even then, it was hard to find any truth in the statement.

Behind the scenes, Ubisoft stated they are pursuing “various transformational strategic and capitalistic options to extract the best value for stakeholders”.

Deciphering the corpo speak

No, your understanding of English is not bad and your cognitive ability is not diminished. The reason it’s so hard to figure out what Ubisoft said is because that type of language was literally invented to make it hard to see the whole picture and only point out the smallest statement the company wants you to focus on.

In this case, their desire is for you to focus on understanding the delay as a good thing because they are making sure the experience will be better for the player.

As for “various transformational strategic and capitalistic options to extract the best value for stakeholders”, it is a statement for Ubisoft’s shareholders that basically says “we are looking into ways to squeeze more money out of the players and possibly sell the company in order to fill your pockets some more”.

I wonder if AI will also replace corpo speak translators in the future.
