Ubisoft’s stock takes a deep dive
Ubisoft’s stock price has taken a dive in the recent months. This is, in large part, thanks to Star Wars Outlaws disastrous ride on the tarmac and subsequent launch.
The company’s stock is currently worth $15.24, and, adjusted for inflation, the last time it was worth around this much was in 2013.
While the C suite of the video gaming giant go in for meetings with the board of directors to see when they should cash in their preferred stocks and get out of dodge, we’re going to take a look at Star Wars Outlaws and what led us here.
Ubisoft games released in 2013
Some of the bigger releases from 11 years ago:
- Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
- Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
- Rayman Legends
- Just Dance 2014
All pretty well-remembered and well-liked games, right?
But back then, they still had some good faith with the players. Good faith that would take far too long to start fading.
Star Wars Outlaws – the nosedive
Star Wars Outlaws was announced in January 2021, with news of two special editions following a couple months later.
Both special editions would bring the players an exclusive mission and access to future story expansions, in addition to the usual cosmetics offering. It looked like it was going to be just another standard Ubisoft launch. But then cracks started to show, the biggest one being the bundle offer with the Raptor Lake processors. Then the tables turned. The switch flipped.
Some reviewers were, of course, way too easy on Star Wars Outlaws, given the game’s publisher (major kudos to the exceptions) but it seems the players have had enough.
In case of STO and Concord, it looks like we’re finally starting to vote with our wallets.
It was supposed to be just another quick trip to the bank (laughing all the way). It had everything going for it: an action-adventure sandbox with a name recognizable the world over, the prospect of hundreds of hours of UbisoftTM bloated playtime, and the promise of a couple of DLCs to add some gravy to the boat.
Just imagine the marketing campaigns!
Happy to see this change in the community.
