No private servers in Dune: Awakening

As the good folks over at VideoGamer are reporting, Funcom’s upcoming MMO Dune: Awakening will launch without private servers. Things will probably stay that way for as long as it’s more profitable.

Then, players will propably be allowed to rent servers from Funcom:

“We could do a thing where we rent out servers, so [players] can have their own private version. In terms of the game balance, and how the end-game plays out, we probably wouldn’t allow people the modifications in Conan Exiles.” – Dune Awakening’s Creative Director, Joel Bylos

So, the players will only have access to the official servers kept up by Funcom. But what will the general outline of the game look like? We got an answer to this question from the same interview. Talking about the portion of the map called the “Hagga Basin”, in which the inretviewer had a chance to play for around an hour:

“The map you played yesterday, Hagga Basin, so there’s multiple versions of it that players can join. Then you go into the social hub, then you go into the deep desert which is kind of the end-game.” – Dune Awakening’s Creative Director, Joel Bylos

Is this why it’s a survival game because you’re playing with your life just by walking there?

All these questions, and more (like why are they using shields, come on guys, are the sandwomrs ok?!) will, hopefully, be answered sometime in 2025 when the game drops for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Xbox One, PC and Linux.
