Intro

Mods are extremely popular with gamers since they are basically free DLC and often offer new types of creativity that weren’t present in a game. For example, Fallout games typically get firearms that look like shovels with a trigger but mods provide such an extensive armory that one can’t realistically expect to try out all the goodies.

In Baldur’s Gate 3’s case, some mods already exist on Nexus but they are not officially supported, which is the topic of today’s Larian update.

What official mod support means for Baldur’s Gate 3

September 2024 will mark the next major update for Baldur’s Gate 3 and it will bring the official mod support with it. These mods will be distributed through Mod.io.

Essentially, the officially supported mods shouldn’t break with every update and some are curated by the devs. This means some thing that are against terms of service will never make it to Mod.io, even if they conflict only with Wizards of the Coast ToS, not with the game directly.

Mods without official support are available via Nexus Mods but keep in mind you will likely need to update them each time the game gets and update.

Are BG3 mods coming to consoles?

Officially supported and curated mods will be available on consoles. However, the ones from Nexus Mods are only available on PC.
