About Chivalry 2

Chivalry 2 is a game that lets you live out the medieval combat fantasy in a spectacular way, with massive brawls in 64-player matches. It doesn’t put much stock into story and simply lets the excellence of the multiplayer carry everything else.

That said, the quality of the multiplayer recently dropped due to a video game pestilence we know as “cheaters”.

Recent controversy

Chivalry 2 was an extremely well-received game until April and then got worse in early May 2024.

The cause of this was the controversy over an April Fools video made by one of the biggest content creators for the game, Soter Dave. In the video, Soter Dave featured info bubbles that contained numerous comedic notions. One of them was that you can use CheatEngine to cheat as much as you want in Chivalry 2.

Torn Banner Studios saw this as a massive slight and permanently banned Soter Dave, refusing to compromise with him later on. Meanwhile, cheaters ran rampant for months with no consequence and as it appears, they still do to this date. The community was in an uproar, prompting the first wave of negative reviews on Steam.

About a month later, the content creator passed away as a result of suicide. Needless to say, this was a catalyst that caused many other players to become disillusioned with the game which is the reason why it was at only 43% positive reviews on Steam at the time it became a freebie on EGS.

It would be a stretch to claim Torn Banner’s abandonment of reason was the sole cause of the tragic event but their actions are still extremely baffling.

They permanently banned one of the game’s biggest fans, proponents and content creators for a 5-second bubble in an April Fools video and they still let cheaters wreak havoc in the game. The same cheaters that were the cause of a 5-second protest in the first place.

In short, Chivalry 2 is an excellent game that’s handled by either bad or incompetent shot callers.
