Intro

Warhammer 40K games miss as often as they hit and Mechanicus belongs to the latter group. It is for this reason that the fans found much joy in Skulls 2024 where Mechanicus 2 was announced.

Enemies involved

As you can see from the header image, Adeptus Mechanicus will be taking on the Necrons this time around. They are led by Vargard Nefershah, whose world the robo fanboys usurped. Awoken from her slumber, she will do everything for another million-year nap.

“After millennia of slumber, Vargard Nefershah mobilises her dynasty’s legions to annihilate the Adeptus Mechanicus interlopers who unknowingly settled upon her world. Across the galaxy, Magos Dominus Faustinius is summoned to bring his hard-won expertise to bear and ensure the Necrons do not succeed. The conflict soon becomes a crucible of unanticipated significance, drawing to it external actors stranger and more deadly still.”

Both factions will have their narrative campaigns so if you feel like going up against the Imperium as a collection of metallic mummies, you are in for a treat.

Mechanics of Mechanicus 2

Each faction has its strength and weaknesses, with cover being a central feature once again. Adeptus Mechanicus will attempt to use it to gain the upper hand while the Necrons will seek to destroy the cover and puny mortals behind it.

It appears that the crew led by Magos Dominus Faustinius will be on a bit of a doomsday clock as they race against time to drive the Necrons back before a global awakening. Meanwhile, the space Egyptians will seek to boot the metal fetishists off their planet.

Managing garrisons is crucial as is assembling forces for each mission. Players will be able to choose “from a vastly expanded selection of fighters” from each faction.
