Capes release date
Daedalic and Spitfire announced that Capes will release on May 29, 2024.
The game is coming to PC, Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5 as well as Xbox One and Series X|S.
What is Capes?
Turn-based games have seen a sharp rise in the last decade but the gameplay style was benched for a larger part of the decade prior. XCOM: Enemy Unknown is largely referenced as the starting point of turn-based resurgence and Firaxis credited as the brilliant studio that inspired another generation of games in the same field. While their latest entry, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, didn’t do well commercially, it was well-received by the audience which is why it makes sense to have a similar game pop up in the near future.
Capes is basically a mix of Firaxis’ biggest games – XCOM and Midnight Suns. Players will get to control unique heroes with their own abilities much like the aforementioned Marvel game but it goes the way of XCOM with progression since the gameplay isn’t designed around a card system.
Instead, the players will train their team to gain access to new abilities that don’t rely on RNG to become usable although randomness is to be expected in other parts of the game.
Story of Capes
Mild spoiler alert for XCOM 2 ahead. It is an 8-year-old game and the spoilers only reference events you are immediately made familiar with.
Superheroes are not in a good light in Capes since the villains won 20 years prior. Now, the ragtag superhero resistance is trying to liberate the King City from The Company’s influence.
It is basically the setting of XCOM 2 with new actors which is not necessarily a bad thing. You get a clear goal and an enemy that’s easy to hate. Might as well super punch them.
