Release date
After impressing just about everyone who played the demo during Steam Next Fest in February 2024, Underspace is heading for Early Access on April 10, 2024.
Temper your expectations
Pastaspace Interactive warned, however, that future players should temper their expectations as many things will be missing.
List of content that will be missing or incomplete is as follows:
- Multiplayer doesn’t include NPCs, bosses or the multiplayer campaign
- It includes bugs though
- Singleplayer will lack multiple questlines, extended ship customization, cockpit textures as well as planetside and station interiors
All of this already exists but it is currently not in such a state that the devs would be comfortable with implementing it at this time. As they make progress, Pastaspace will add content and features over time. So, in essence, it is regular Early Access things.
Speaking of making progress, when the Early Access launches, the devs will also publish a roadmap to help players see what the future holds in store for Underspace.
Worth the wait?
Underspace is basically the next Freelancer and if the full game turns out to be as good as the aforementioned demo, we are in for a beautiful gaming treat. Will it be worth the wait? As it happens, Underspace was my favorite demo of the 56 games I tried during Steam Next Fest (February 2024)
“Underspace retains the early 2000s charm and offers a slight graphics improvement with all the bells and whistles that gave me the sense of wonder back in Freelancer days. Big like.” ~ Game Whisper endorsement
Provided something doesn’t go horribly wrong during Early Access as the roadmap unfolds, it will absolutely be worth waiting for.
