Intro

Crown Wars: The Black Prince had a fairly impressive demo during Steam Next Fest 2024 but it was a bit rough around the edges, which is presumably why the delay is happening.

New release date and elaboration

Nacon announced the new release date will be May 23, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The official explanation for the delay hints at the aforementioned needs for polishing but in true fashion of any PR statement, it doesn’t confirm any details.

“This additional development time will be used to fine-tune several elements of the game, and incorporate some improvements requested by the players, in order to offer optimal gameplay that will delight fans of turn-based tactics and strategy games.”

New trailer

On the flip side, the news of delay came with a new trailer diving into the concept of domains so those looking forward to the release will have something else to sate their thirst in the meantime.

When the game releases on May 23, 2024, Nacon also noted a new video will arrive to explain the organization of the domain, which is the player’s headquarters. Initially, it will be inherited as a ruin but it will be built up over time, allowing players to train their squad, equip soldiers and manage resources.

Game Whisper’s impressions of Crown Wars

Crown Wars: The Black Prince was one of the best demos I tried out during the latest Steam Next Fest and if the full game continues in the spirit of the demo, it will be a blast for turn-based RPG fans.

“Crown Wars: The Black Prince (A) has performance issues, voice acting can sometimes be iffy and graphics look slightly dated but it is an intriguing RPG along the lines of King Arthur: Knight’s Tale and Expeditions: Rome. A doggo comes with one of the party members as highly useful combatant.”

I rated in the A tier and it would be in S if not for polishing issues and perhaps the voice acting.
