Elden Ring players got a fresh patch for their favorite game this morning. On top of balancing some spells and skills in the PvP portion of the title, the 1.09 patch also brought Ray Tracing, which means that the fans can now look extra pretty while fighting for their lives in the (already beautiful) Lands Between.
Elden Ring’s 1.09 update targets the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Ray Tracing in Elden Ring
Patch 1.09 introduces the new graphic feature to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC versions of the game with a disclaimer that Elden Ring’s overall performance, including frame rate and resolution, can be affected when playing with Ray Tracing ON.
How to activate Ray Tracing in Elden Ring
Ray Tracing in Elden Ring can be activated in the settings menu:
- PS5 / XSX: Game Options > Ray Tracing
- PC: Graphics > Ray Tracing Quality

Patch 1.09 also includes some PvP changes. Overall, there’s been a decrease in the power or effectiveness of several spells, skills, attacks, and weapon types, but none of the changes will affect single-player or cooperative play.
Last but not least, players can expect some general balance changes in Ashes of War items and Elden Ring as a whole, as well as some run-of-the-mill bug fixes.
