The Day Before reached the critical point where people doubted the existence of a real game behind the scripted footage so Fntastic decided to disprove those claims.
On February 2, 2023, the team uploaded a YouTube short where someone is acting like they are playing the game but the keyboard and mouse inputs just don’t match what we see on the screen.
In the first five seconds, the player moves his mouse to the left while the camera seems to lag behind but it gets there eventually. There is room for error while following the motions of action on the screen and the player’s mouse hand so we can let this one slide.
Pressing the keyboard keys at the wrong time is extremely obvious though. Just 15 seconds into the video, the player taps the “D” button once with his index finger, as if he hadn’t memorized the time he was supposed to do it. The second time he just keeps the finger on the D button and roughly one second later, the character starts moving to the right.
If you continue following the motions of the hand on the keyboard, you will see that they are often not what is displayed on the screen. This is not an RTS that requires 600 actions per minute so these mistakes are really not hard to catch.
Frankly, there would be more room for doubt if they never showed the short.
