Rock on!

In a twist that surprised no one, Hi-Fi Rush has taken the video game world by storm and picked up the pieces Forspoken had so recklessly scattered all over the place when it was released mere hours earlier.

We can honestly say that our faith in humanity and the gaming world has somewhat been restored when we see this kind of result.

According to SteamDB’s Steam Weekly Global Top Sellers list, Hi-Fi Rush sits comfortably at the number 8 spot, while Forspoken is nowhere to be seen.

The underdog narrative we seem to be pinning on Hi-Fi Rush is further amplified by the fact that, relative to Forspoken, Hi-FI Rush did not have a marketing campaign.

Forspoken’s Goliath marketing push, however, seems to have done more harm than good so maybe Hi-Fi Rush dodged a bullet when the folks in charge decided to just announce it at last week’s Xbox Developer Direct presentation, and then immediately proceed to inform the viewers that it is already available.

This kind of “guerilla marketing” is truly a breath of fresh air, and while it certainly won’t work for the majority of titles that will inevitably try to copy Bethesda’s approach, we love to see it pay out for such an interesting title.

Another interesting fact about Hi-Fi Rush’s placement on SteamDB (and in players’ hearts) comes up when we remember the price tags for Tango Gameworks’ offering and Forspoken. Coming in at £26.99 / $30 on Steam, Hi-Fi Rush costs less than half of what Forspoken owners have paid for that experience.

We love to see an actually good game triumph over a poorly-optimized, overpriced mess of a title.
