Bye PlayStation 5, hello PC.

Leave it to Capcom to totally shake up the status quo and move their fast-approaching tournament from console to PC in order to combat input lag.

As reported by The Verge, Capcom’s week-long Street Fighter 5 tournament scheduled to happen in February will be held on PCs, hooked up to 144Hz monitors.

Issues with input lag have plagued the PlayStation versions of Street Fighter 5 for some time now and the move to PC is celebrated by the Fighting Game Community, which has been pushing for the switch. They will now be able to sit back, relax and know they’re watching the best action their beloved tournament has to offer.

“Capcom Cup moving to PC is 100 percent the right move for several documented reasons”,

Arturo Sanchez, for The Verge

Sanchez also cited “better controller response” and an “over 50 percent” reduction of in-game delay on 144Hz monitors as reasons for the switch.

This is a welcome change for the Capcom Cup, and its fans, as it will have an effect on the players’ performance as well as the fans’ enjoyment of the event.

However, smaller tournaments will probably stick to PlayStation-based matches, simply because their budget won’t allow a dedicated technical team to put it all together and make sure everything goes on without a hitch.

At the end of the day, Capcom Cup may even return to PlayStation with the release of Street Fighter 6 which could ship with the new Input Delay Reduction feature.
