Show of hands, who’s up to surviving Alaska in a Far Cry-type environment.
The rumor mill never stops spinning, and today we got an appealing tale of the next Far Cry game, along with a rather interesting add-on.
Far Cry 7 and Far Cry Multiplayer
Anonymous sources have recently let slip that the folks over at Ubisoft Montreal are hard at work developing Project Blackbird and Project Maverick. The two codenames refer to Far Cry 7, and Far Cry Multiplayer, respectively.
The two are said to be in development using Ubisoft’s own Snowdrop engine. The engine flaunts global volumetric lighting, procedural destruction, and an advanced particle system, all of which sound like the exact features you’d need to render credibly large amounts of snow – which brings me to the next point: location, location, location.
We know precious little about the particulars of the two, but there is some talk about the location. It seems we’re looking at a trip to the barren regions of Alaska to get our next Far Cry fix.
Alaska sure seems like the perfect candidate to get the players fighting the elements and each other for resources, ammo, and that extremely toasty-looking pair of mittens.
For now, it looks like the single-player experience will share the location with the multiplayer extravaganza, but nothing is set in stone.
Another entry into the Far Cry franchise is inevitable, but the news of a multiplayer edition did come as a bit of a shock.
However, there is a tweet shared by Alex Fernandez, the voice actor for Juan Cortez of Far Cry 6 fame, that places him in a recording booth in November 2022, with the words “Enemy spy activated Sonar Vision. Wish we had that back when I was KGB.” which kind of points to a multiplayer setting if you think about it.
The tweet didn’t get that much attention back when it was sent out but we’re thinking that’s going to change soon. We’re also positive that an official teaser is in the works as we speak, and we won’t have to wait long to see what exactly Ubisoft is cooking up.
