Fridays are for sharing what we intend to play during the upcoming weekend. With this in mind, I’d like to direct your attention to a fantasy RPG developed by Don’t Nod Entertainment I’ll be sinking my teeth into over the coming days.
Vampyr is a single-player action RPG released in 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One (it’s also available for Switch since 2019). The plot sees a newborn vampire who goes by the name of Johnatan Reid trying to get to grips with his new un-life as a creature of the night in 1918’s London. His new existence is complicated by the fact that he is a doctor who swore an oath to protect human lives.
I’ve already only scratched the surface of Vampyr but what I’ve seen so far has gripped and mesmerized me so much that I’d be remiss if I didn’t shine a light on this title.
The limiting factor to my playthrough has been the lack of daylight in my neck of the woods: this is a borderline-horror game in my humble opinion, and playing at night is simply not an option for this girl.
That said, Vampyr positively drips with atmosphere, and the setting of 1918’s London is made that much more vibrant with the game’s violin-heavy score. The players will, however, only witness this stage at night, as our good Dr. Reid is partial to the graveyard shift – as much as I am not.
As Dr. Johnatan Reid, the players will have the opportunity to speak to the citizens of London’s many districts, dole out serums and medicine as well as use some of these folk as their personal, albeit one-time, blood banks, all on their journey to find answers to his many questions about the supernatural world he’s found himself in.

I’ll be completing my playthrough of Vampyr soon, but until then, let me know if you’ve already played the game, what you thought of it, and did you, like me have to play it while it’s light out because you’re a scaredy-cat.
