It has been some time since Overwatch 2 could boast of having a brand new hero and never has it happened that said hero bridged the gap between tank and damage roles in the moment-to-moment gameplay.
Ramattra is the latest addition to Overwatch 2’s roster and comes in two forms: Omnic and Nemesis. The former is tailored for poking the enemies and easily traversing short distances, while the latter is a beefier tank with both offensive and defensive abilities.
Ramattra’s Omnic form abilities
Void Accelerator – primary
A primary source of damage while Ramattra is in Omnic form, the Accelerator shoots out a steady stream of damage-dealing nanites. The ability itself has a slow travel time, but there’s no damage falloff and you will deal increased damage if you score headshots.
Void Barrier – secondary
As the name suggests, the Void Barrier ability will spawn a sturdy shield at a location of your choosing. Ramattra’s shield will have 1000 health points but a limited shelf life. This ability will come in handy when fending off a Pharah or D.Va ult or mitigating a particularly inconvenient choke point.
Ramattra’s Nemesis form abilities
Pummel – primary
Ramattra’s source of damage while in the Nemesis form is the Pummel ability which sees the new hero essentially punching energy into/out of the foes standing in front of him. The Pummel ability ignores barriers and goes through multiple heroes at once, as long as they are standing behind one another.
Pummel’s animation looks like an ominous version of Zenyatta’s primary fire and we’re here for the duality.
Block – secondary
Again, it’s what it says on the tin. Ramtattra’s Block ability will reduce the damage coming from in front of him, all the while leaving his back vulnerable to attacks. Block will also make Ramattra move a bit slower but that’s par for the course in Overwatch 2 at this point.
Ramattra’s abilities in both Omnic and Nemesis forms
Ravenous Vortex
Available to both forms, Ramattra’s Vortex will appear in the shape of a large circle on the floor, slowing the enemy players down, damaging them, and most importantly, yanking them out of the sky and planting their feet firmly on the ground.
Annihilation
Last but not least, Ramattra’s ultimate ability: Annihilation. Pressing Q when the ult meter is full will automatically transform Ramattra into his Nemesis form, and spawn a ring around him that deals constant damage to the enemies within range. The duration of Ramattra’s ult ability will depend on how fast you can get close to the opposing team: its countdown timer will pause as long as you are dealing damage.
While Annihilation is active, Ramattra can still use the Pummel ability, but it seems that the hero will only be able to move forward – think Reinhardt’s Charge or Junker Queen’s ulti.
We can’t wait for Ramattra to drop so we can fight until we fall.
