Escape First Alchemist is an upcoming puzzle game with a Prologue demo now available on Steam. We took this opportunity to give the game a try and were taken aback by the beauty of its graphics, the simplicity of the UI, and its puzzles. The clock and cylinder puzzles were just what we needed to whet our appetite in anticipation of the full game release.

Getting to the cylinder puzzle – finding the keys to the clock mechanism

To get to even begin turning the cylinders, you’ll need to find keys for the clock mechanism. The first key is already in its spot, so you’ll have to locate two more.

The second key we found was in the cabinet on the second floor of the shop. Open the cabinet door, take the huge vase that occupies it and proceed to drop it to its doom. The shattered pieces of the vase will reveal the second key.

Getting to the third key will involve some brewing: you’ll need to brew the lift potion from the recipe book at the brewing station.

How to brew a potion in Escape First Alchemist

Volatus, or lift potion requires a feather, badger tooth, iguana eggs, a blue flame and the fire intensity of 1. After you’ve brewed the purple mixture, you’ll need to use it on the unicorn head statue at the foot of the stairs. This will make the statue levitate and reveal the final key.

Slotting the final key into its place will reveal two tiny clocks at either side of the mechanism.

Solving the clock puzzle

The newly-revealed clock puzzle will be solved once you’ve matched the times on the big clocks to the small ones. The key in the center will move the hands of both big clocks, the left one will only affect the left clock and so on.

The cylinder puzzle – finally

Solving Escape First Alchemist’s clock puzzle will reveal the cylinders you’ll have to rotate to open the chest. The first cylinder can’t be rotated and it will serve as a template we’ll use to crack the rest.

You’ll want to rotate the second cylindar until all facets on its left side mirror the number of dots on the non-rotating cylinder. The third cylinder should be rotated until the number and position of the dots on its left side correspond to the same parametars on the right side of the previous cylinder. Rinse and repeat the strategy until the dots start glowing and reveal the chest’s sweet secret, just like in our video above.
